The USB-C cables are connected to the USB-C port of the laptop. The built-in power supply unit ensures that no power from laptop batteries is sucked off via USB-C. In contrast to simple hard disk frames, each SATA slot has its own SATA driver chip, which ensures collision-free data transfer via the USB-C cables. So there's no reason why you shouldn't cut directly from the disks.

The SSDs and HDDs on are integrated like normal hard disks on Mac OS X and Windows computers.
